I love when we start a new year. It is a time to pause, reflect, and to reset our lives if necessary. I know for me I usually will look for new opportunities, or things to help personally develop over the year; I'll be honest most things never stick, but on rare occasions I find a gem or two that allows for me excel in various aspects in my life that I feel are important. This year is no exception, and so I am super pumped about my recent discovery of the product Unbound Planners.
I discovered this planner by some random Google roulette search for "setting goals in 2018"; out popped this potential gem...I say potential because I am currently trying to implement this within my routine. What I do love so far about the Unbound Planner is that it starts off with guided self-reflective questions that are then used to help think about what your trying to accomplish within a years time-frame. Surprisingly, I also found that writing in the pages with real paper and a real pen felt AMAZING. Research does say that you are 50% more likely to reach your goals if they are written down, so I am feeling like I am going to be 100% better then last year since I didn't write diddly-squat down last year.
Here is my top 5 things I am looking to accomplish for 2018:
1. Reconnect with my Faith
I don't know why, but I have been making excuses as to why I haven't been able to read my bible, or attend church. I'm really looking at getting back into doing my daily devotions, and meditating on what God is calling me to do. It is a relationship that I have neglected far to long, and it is time to reconnect the creator of the universe and allow Him to make me a better version of myself.
2. Marriage
Like all couples who go through rough patches, my wife and I are no exception. We have our share of struggles and set backs, especially since we have been so career and kid focused, so it's important to recalibrate and get back to basics. Our marriage is in good place, but I don't ever want to settle for good. I remember always telling my students, "good is the enemy of great. Never settle for good, only settle for great..", so with that heart in mind I want a GREAT marriage. I don't want to settle for anything less.
3. Get into DOE Admin program: HICISL
I've been fortunate enough to be in an administrative role in my current capacity, and this has allowed me to work with various principals within our complex area; all of them have mentored me in some ways. I have learned so much on what works, and what doesn't, and that wisdom gained has been priceless to me. I also know that I a huge learning curve, and there is still a lot I need to learn, but I feel that the time is now. Several administrators have told me, that your never ever really ready to step into administration, but with time and experience you will grow into the leader you are supposed to become...I can't argue with that!
4. Health and Fitness
This is more of a continuation from last year. I have been focusing a lot on my overall health, especially as I am quickly approaching my 40's. My goal is to get in the best shape of my life. I am looking to be very intentional in my workouts and eating habits. I'm also joining a competitive accountability group; lets just say money and bragging rights are on the line, and I don't like losing. In the end, the seeds I plant for my overall health and wellness will be reaped when I am much older...I want to reap a good harvest.
5. Build my business
I have been extremely fortunate to have had a growing and thriving business for the last 12 years. The road has not always been easy, but being a part of growing something from nothing has been gratifying and it has taught me so much. I have such and amazing team that go above and beyond for our clients; I'm excited for what 2018 has in store for Techy3 Design Studios.
These are my top 5 things I am looking to accomplish over this year. I am excited about the journey ahead and the lessons to be learned. Cheers to becoming the best versions of ourselves in 2018!
